Coffee by Design 7/2026
I was given the opportunity to work with the very first coffee shop I ever visited in La Conner, Washington. The owner, Kim, and I instantly bonded over our shared love of plants and butterflies so we came up with a pair of designs for the blank white letters on her fence that read C O F F E E . We chose three flowers that start with each letter in the word: Chrysanthemum, columbine, cereus, orchid, oxalis, oleander, foxglove, fuchsia, echinacea, euphorbia, edelweiss…and others if you can spot them when you stop by for an iced coffee!
I wanted to cryate 2 opposite styles on each side of the fence. For the east-facing canvas I wanted to do a rustic linotype print feel, but with Monarch butterflies. I saw all the Rose Campion (“Lamb’s Ear”) growing outside and I based the tetradic color-scheme off of that neon magenta flower and the mermaid-aqua trim of Kim’s shop. The results are wild and fun, but not out of place.
